Certifications in progress

We're working toward the following for future product lines and markets:

  • FSC (Forest Stewardship Council)Targeted Q3 2026 — hardwood sustainable sourcing
  • HACCPTargeted Q4 2026 — food-grade processing chain
  • FDA Registration (US)Targeted Q1 2027 — for activated carbon exports

Certifications — frequently asked questions

Common questions from procurement, compliance, and auditor teams.

Why do my export shipments need a Halal or Kosher certificate?

Halal and Kosher certifications confirm the product contains no animal-derived ingredients and was processed without contamination from non-Halal/non-Kosher inputs. For coconut shell and bamboo charcoal, both certifications are straightforward — neither is animal-derived, and our own and partner kilns process only the certified feedstock. Required by GCC importers (UAE, Saudi, Bahrain), most US specialty retailers, and EU Kosher-Halal-restaurant supply chains. Issued per shipment, valid for that shipment's lot only.

What's the difference between FSSAI and ISO 9001?

FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) certifies the product is safe for food contact — required for any charcoal used in cooking (BBQ, tandoor, sigri) or in food-adjacent applications (cosmetic powder for oral care). ISO 9001:2015 certifies the production process follows documented quality controls — covers everything from raw-material intake through kiln operation (own and partner facilities), packing, and shipping. We hold both. FSSAI is product-specific; ISO is operations-wide.

Are your products REACH compliant for EU shipments?

Yes. Our charcoal and activated carbon products fall under REACH Article 7 (substances in articles) and are exempt from registration when shipped at standard purity (no special additives). For activated carbon used in pharmaceutical or food contact applications, we provide a REACH compliance declaration with each shipment confirming the substance is listed on the EU candidate-list assessment and meets SVHC limits.

Can I get a Certificate of Analysis (COA) per lot?

Yes — a per-lot COA is available on request for orders at or above 50 kg, stating: fixed carbon %, moisture %, ash %, volatile matter %, calorific value (kcal/kg), species composition (for wood charcoal), and BET surface area + iodine number (for activated carbon). Tested in-house on a randomised sample. Mention you'd like a COA when placing the order so we can pull the right test sheet for your lot. Third-party SGS or Bureau Veritas COAs for the same lot are available on request at additional cost.

Does WoodCharcoal.in have FDA registration?

FDA registration for our activated coconut carbon is targeted for Q1 2027 (currently under prep). For US-bound shipments before then, our products ship under the FDA's 'no-FDA-registration-required' exemption for non-medical-grade activated carbon used in industrial filtration; for pharma-grade applications, we recommend buyers source through an FDA-registered US distributor. Speak to sales for the specific compliance route for your application.

Are your kilns and operations environmentally compliant?

Yes. Our Rajkot facility holds a valid Consent to Operate from the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) covering air emissions and solid-waste handling. Where the kiln design supports it (in our facility and at several partner kilns), wood gas is recovered as process heat instead of being vented, reducing per-tonne CO₂-equivalent emissions by approximately 40% versus traditional flat-pan kilns. Our hardwood feedstock is exclusively plantation and pruning material — never primary or old-growth forest.

Do you carry pharmaceutical-grade certifications?

For activated coconut carbon used in pharmaceutical adsorption: yes, we test per ASTM D4607 and can supply a per-lot COA on request, with iodine number, BET surface area, hardness, and heavy-metal screening. We do not currently hold a USP or BP pharmacopoeia certification; pharma-grade buyers typically certify the product themselves via their internal QC, with our test data as the input.

Can I audit your production facility?

Yes. Customer audits of our Rajkot facility are welcome with two weeks' notice for pre-arranged visits. The site is accessible by car or train (Rajkot Junction is 8 km away). We accommodate procurement audits, supplier-quality assessments (SQA), and third-party social-compliance audits (SEDEX, BSCI, Sedex SMETA on request). Visits to partner kilns can be arranged on a case-by-case basis with the relevant partner. Audit costs (auditor travel, our staff time) are typically borne by the customer.
